Social Enterprises

Mother Earth Construction (MEC)

Clan Mothers’ very first social enterprise employs Indigenous women, 2-Spirit, and gender-diverse people who have completed our Carpentry Training Program. The program provides inclusive training for those who have walked the path of systemic and historical trauma, creating opportunities for healing, skills development, and meaningful employment.

Why a Carpentry Training Program?

-Women represent only 5% of skilled trades jobs

-Over 50% of women working in the construction industry are in administrative roles

-Women represent less than 4% of supervisors and 9% of managers in construction

-Women represent only 10% of Red Seal trade certificate holders

We are working hard to change that!

The Mother Earth Construction crew has spent the past few years on the land in Belair, MB, building the first phase of the Clan Mothers Healing Village under the guidance of our partners at Indigenous-owned Parkwest Projects Ltd. The site now features a beautiful Longhouse Cabin for group gatherings with a commercial kitchen, an 8-bedroom Elders cabin, and three 1- and 2-bedroom cabins nearing completion to provide transitional housing.

Mother Earth Construction is now taking on community projects—building decks, fences, pergolas, and more. These projects allow our crew to expand their skills as Apprentice Carpenters, mentored by the leadership at Parkwest Projects, while continuing toward our long-term goal of a sustainable, self-sufficient organization.

If you’re interested in building a new deck, fence, pergola, or custom project, we’d love to discuss your design and provide a free estimate. We’re currently scheduling projects now through Spring/Summer 2026

Please contact our Project Lead, Rafael Terrain at mec@clanmothersvillage.org to discuss your project!
