Over time, Clan Mothers will continue to grow its social enterprise portfolio. At this time, the organization is investigating the following initiatives:
Knowledge Centre
The Knowledge Centre will be an educational provider focused on disseminating information to other service providers as well as acting as a centralized hub for large spiritual and educational gatherings.
The Knowledge Centre will provide education and direction to service providers and others in all sectors working with women who have suffered sexual exploitation, human trafficking, domestic violence, and all abuses creating physical and emotional harm to their bodies, minds, and spirits. It will also provide educational services through Indigenous land-based educational programs.
Indigenous Arts-Fashion Activism Focus
This business unit will create effective campaigns and an economic base through the arts and fashion industries. Trending contemporary movements through arts activism are one of the best ways to bring awareness to social injustices. We will collaborate with designers, artists, and women through workshops leading to designing and implementing tailor-made products for resale – specifically to bring awareness to social injustices around sexual exploitation and trafficking of Indigenous women.
By producing socially engaged Arts-Fashion products we aim to raise awareness, trigger action, and foster greater support for Clan Mothers’ human rights campaigns. In this way, this program will offer recovering women an opportunity to be involved in healing and to benefit economically through this social enterprise business unit.
Greenhouse
Clan Mothers seeks to enrich the lives of its residents and provide food in a natural manner. The development of a greenhouse facility provides two significant benefits – the food produced in the greenhouse will help to sustain residents of the site, and products grown in the facility could provide a welcome source of alternate revenue (through direct sales, or by providing materials to the traditional medicinal production house).
As a secondary benefit, the greenhouse would provide work opportunities for the residents – providing them with experiences that support Indigenous philosophies of food for mind, body, and spirit.
Indigenous Medicinal Products
One of the key social enterprise opportunities available to Clan Mothers is designing, branding, and marketing Indigenous medicinal products through a production facility. The focus is in keeping with Clan Mothers philosophy of emphasizing traditional healing methods. This social enterprise provides a unique tie between product and purpose, and it works within a growing market segment in the pharmacy and natural healing retail sector.
The social enterprise will include opportunities for women who are in the healing program to participate and learn the business aspects to support them on their journey once they leave. The skills they gain in developing this business will support future career opportunities.
Clan Mothers Media Inc.
Clan Mothers Media has been incorporated as a revenue-generating arm of the Clan Mothers Healing Village operation. In the initial stages, Clan Mothers Media will focus on producing social network marketing materials for the Clan Mothers Healing Village and for the social enterprise arm.
In addition to this, however, the media company will also seek to develop its own client base – focusing specifically on Indigenous projects.
